Just a few hours ago, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, announced on Twitter that they are rolling out a ChatGPT plugin. This plugin will allow us to install various plugins in the ChatGPT Plus version and enable developers to unleash their imaginations.

Let’s take a look at what it can do. Firstly, it can retrieve real-time information. Before, ChatGPT only had data before 2021. But now, with the plugin, ChatGPT can search for real-time information, such as sports scores, stock prices, and the latest news.

Secondly, it can retrieve information from knowledge bases, such as company documents and personal notes. Lastly, it can perform operations on behalf of individual users. For example, it can book flights, order meals, and create travel itineraries.

Currently, the plugin is in the alpha stage, and most people cannot use it yet. However, let’s look at an example. Wolfram is a knowledge-based search engine that can answer various questions, from mathematics to everyday life. It has now been integrated into the ChatGPT AI family. When we use the ChatGPT browsing (input) box, we can install plugins that combine artificial intelligence and professional websites like Wolfram, creating brilliant sparks.

We can see these plugins in the Plugin Store, which is similar to the Chrome store. Secondly, there is a language learning plugin and an e-commerce plugin. When we install these plugins, we can ask ChatGPT to book a restaurant, and he immediately opens the OpenTable plugin, which is a restaurant booking plugin, and books a table for us. The restaurant’s address and menu are available, and we can use Wolfram to calculate calories. This way, ChatGPT uses two plugins to achieve more possibilities than before.

Finally, he opens a shopping list on a shopping website. This is one of the two plugins developed by OpenAI. Expedia is a well-known travel booking website that, when combined with ChatGPT, allows us to plan our travel itinerary, book flights, hotels, and more. When we ask ChatGPT for information about this year’s Oscars, he searches for the latest information in the browser and displays the source link. He then creates some keywords and searches for the results of an article. Finally, he summarizes and answers the latest information based on the keywords, and uses a green superscript 1 and 2 to mark the sources of the key information.

This marks a significant change from ChatGPT’s past, where information was limited to before 2021. This new feature also prevents ChatGPT and other AI from spreading misinformation.

Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoy using the ChatGPT plugin.
